POLMUZ MODEL 1 NATURAL – MADE IN POLAND

Polmuz is a legendary brand that made the first Polish drums, known to every drummer in Poland. The company was founded in Warsaw in the 1960s, with its factory at 75/77 Grochowska Street. Besides drums, Polmuz also made percussion and wind instruments. The last drums were made in the early 1990s, and then the brand disappeared from the market. In 2018 the team behind DrumStore, a drum shop in Gdynia, revived Polmuz and bought the rights to its name.

Model 1 Natural is maple in a natural finish: oil and wax instead of lacquer, so you can see the whole figure of the wood. We build it by hand in our workshop in Gdynia, with ultra-sharp bearing edges and the heavy-duty Model 1 hardware.

Maple in a natural finish

Natural is our maple Model 1 with no paint and no lacquer. We protect the wood with oil and wax, so the drum looks like wood, not like plastic.

Maple is the classic drum wood and our most versatile one. It has balanced mids and highs, a warm low end and rich resonance, so it works in every style, from jazz to metal.

The shells have 6 plies of maple and are only 4.8 mm thick in total. We chose this plywood in 2019, after comparing loads of different plywoods, because it sounded the best. Tap the bare shell and you can already hear its tone.

Oil and wax soak into the wood and protect it from moisture and dirt, and they do not choke the shell the way a thick coat of paint does. We do the finish by hand, so every kit has a wood figure of its own.

You can buy a kit ready-made or put one together from single drums. The prices in the table are maple drums with chrome hardware and Evans heads, plus natural wax at PLN 100 per drum.

We charge the finish per drum:

natural wax: PLN 100,
oil in one colour, fade or solid: PLN 500,
lacquer: PLN 500,
black matte: PLN 590,
artistic finish, painted by hand with a brush: PLN 990.

Gold hardware is PLN 400 per drum, and black chrome is coming soon. We make a size not on the price list for PLN 300 per drum.

How we price a drum kit

How we build the Model 1

Every drum is made by hand, in our workshop in Gdynia.

A 2 × 45° bearing edge, routed, polished and waxed, ultra sharp on every drum, the bass drum included. The drumhead sits on the flat part, so the drum is easy to tune, low tunings too, and it stays in tune.
Holes drilled to within 0.2 mm. We draw the hole layout in QCAD, so the tension rods go in straight and do not rub against the hoop.
Tube lugs barely touch the shell, so the drum resonates freely. Long tension rods with a metal and a nylon washer hold the tuning.
The tom mounts do not go through the shell.
The bass drum claws are die-cast and have rubber pads, and the bass drum spurs are sturdy, with a retractable spike.
Inside every drum there is a sticker with the owner's full name, and a single coat of oil and wax inside comes included in the price.

How is the Natural different from other maple Polmuz kits?

The wood and the build are the same as in the Model 1 Maple. The difference is the finish: instead of a colour or lacquer it has oil and wax, so you can see the natural figure of the maple.
